Esports Nations Cup Wildcard Slots, Explained

The Esports Nations Cup 2026 (ENC) is built around the idea that the world’s best esports talent can come from anywhere. But not every country or territory has the same competitive infrastructure, tournament access, or pathway to qualify through traditional systems. That's where Wildcard slots come in.

A Wildcard is a special qualification spot that gives additional countries and territories a chance to compete at ENC 2026 outside of the standard qualification system.

At ENC 2026, Wildcards are divided into three categories: Solidarity Slots, Host Region Slots, and Special Invites. Each pathway serves a different purpose, but all are designed to help broaden participation across the tournament’s 16-title lineup.

Solidarity Slots

Solidarity Slots are performance-based opportunities created for countries and territories that may not yet have large esports ecosystems or consistent international representation. Available across every title except Counter-Strike 2, these slots are intended to ensure more regions have a chance to compete on the ENC stage. Beginning July 23, eligible countries and territories that have not already qualified for more than one title can apply for a Solidarity Slot in their strongest game. Once qualifiers conclude, applications will be reviewed based on competitive strength and regional representation before final slots are awarded.

Host Region Slots

Host Region Slots are designed to ensure local representation at the event, similar to systems used in traditional international sports competitions. For ENC 2026, the slot applies to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region rather than a single host nation. Across each game title, the highest-performing GCC country or territory that has not already qualified through standard pathways will receive the slot.

Special Invites

Special Invites are used in situations where technical, ecosystem, or operational limitations make traditional qualification difficult. Unlike Solidarity Slots, these invitations are not performance-based and are only applied in select titles under specific circumstances defined alongside game partners.

Special Invite and Solidarity Slot allocations for selected titles include:

  • Chess (2 Solidarity Slots)

All remaining titles, excluding Counter-Strike 2, will have 1 Solidarity Slot by default

Wildcards at ENC 26

For fans, Wildcards add another layer of unpredictability to ENC 2026. They create opportunities for emerging regions, breakout players, and unexpected contenders to challenge established powers on the global stage. In many cases, Wildcard teams may represent scenes and communities appearing at this level of international competition for the first time.

All Wildcard participants will receive full travel and accommodation support and compete under the same player experience framework as every other qualified team and player at the ENC Finals in Riyadh.
